Sleeping, how it differs from culture to culture
In last week's class, we learned some new things on how sleeping is perceived in your culture compared to Japanese culture, and this time around we had inputs from actual Japanese students so it was easier to see how their viewpoints differed compared to ours.
To start with, it seems the Japanese tend to nap anywhere everywhere due to their body needing to nap to make up for the lack of sleep because of their hefty schedules, where often Japanese people only sleep 5 hours before getting ready for the next day, as such they need to nap in order to function.
In the Middle East, people do love to nap but generally you wouldn't find them napping anywhere like a business meeting because it would be considered super rude, but in Japan people are more understanding to why someone would have to nap.
We also watched a documentary made by the Germans on Japan and sleep and I discovered there was an international futon championship which was pretty funny.
