Cultural Other Awareness

In last week's class we talked about the differences between your culture and japanese culture in various topics including but not limited to:

Introducing yourself to others

Appropriate behaviors when seeing people you might know(like your neighbors)

and much more.

Through that, I discovered that Japanese culture is completely different from where I'm from, as I believe Japanese society prefers non confrontativeness compared to how open and outgoing we are in the Middle East, interestingly, I also learned from conversations with a classmate that some European countries are also similar to my own culture and different to Japan's.

  1. I agree with you—Japanese culture really values non-confrontation and subtlety, which is quite different from the more expressive and open way we interact in many other places. I’m from Bulgaria, and I also noticed that some parts of Europe share similarities with Middle Eastern culture when it comes to being more direct and social.
